Not on a 125 specifically , but hydrostatic drives , as in large crawler (JD) transmissions, and other skid steers etc have a similar theory of operation....shoot some questions...I'm sure someone might know

I bought this unit as it looked good and ran good, good rubber etc but knowing it had a hydraulic problem, had a leak and wouldnt move, loader works fine. Got it home and started to run thuogh the tests in the JD TM. Up on blocks all works just like it should but on the ground only moves slow forward and back will not turn itself. Put a guage on the charge pump and at WOT barely had the min pressure. Took pump apart all was well within spec except releif valve and seat area was slightly pitted repaired this with sandpaper on a dowel and stretched out the spring, cleaned and reassembled. Now pressure was in spec, so tested on blocks and pressure was dropping while turning but staying in spec. Put the unit on the ground works same as before and when i try to turn it pressure drops to zero.... So back to book, it says next to check main pump pressure relief valves and pump case drain test, no problem except I need a special fitting to screw in inplace of pressure relief cap so I can plug in a pressure guage and a special wrench to put on end of motor shaft to stall motor, to get pressure. JD tells me these wrenches are no longer availible but will sell me the special fitting for 72$, I think Ill try to make one first. Also book doesnt tell how to test hyd motors only pumps , any ideas, also that if bad I can get new motors from JD for 1900$ each but pumps and pressure relief valves are obsolete... Has anyone had similar symptoms with one of these, any one know of any skidsteer junkyards? Thanks for any and all help. Kevin

both sides act the same ?? both weak or no movement? Does this only have one chargepump for both drives?? if so i would try and isolate either side from the other and see if one side will operate normally. The pump may be feeding an internal leak and cant keep up with the demand...hard to believe both sides would be equally worn out at the same time....I'll check a parts catalog to see how its set up...

Yes both sides act the same, has just one charge pump to supply both pumps, For got to mention when I bought it it also had a leak on one of the pumps where the tin cover, covers the bearing where the linkage shaft is. JD dealer mech told me could be I dont have enough gph from charge pump or have a internal leak in one pump and drain to tank couldnt keep up with leak so built up pressure and blew out tin cover, and because of all this leaking even the good pump doesnt get enough oil and therefore it wont turn and moves slow?

I was thinking that if you could block the flow from the charge pump from one side, and see how the other side drives , then block the other side but connect to the first side that was blocked off. This might help eliminate what side is bad . probably not the easiest thing to do as I believe there are a lot of sttel tubes as opposed to hydraulic hoses under there !!

John Deere man was out today and did a flow test on the charge pump, had 2 gpm and supposed to have 7, so will take pump back apart and inspect.
