if battery cables get switched to wrong battery terminals in a postive ground system on a tractor, what damage results and how serious is it for repair etc. Thanks PC

You said POS ground, therefore I assume you have a generator and this is an old tractor. The dammage is likely light. Hook it up right and if it charges and the cutout relay isn't welded shut you are okay.

P.C.,

One should make certain that the correct polarity will be maintained. If the polarity is reversed by accidentally reversing of the terminals,the diodes in the alternator,transistors in the radio, transistors---when used in the ignition system and etc. Will, or could be ruined when the engine is started and the radio is turned on.
