Drained the oil today in the JD 410, looks a tad green. anybody here ever messed with these motors (4cyl 219 ci)? How much of a PIA would it be do do the head or cyliner liners? Still running like a top, but who likes green oil. I think I need to find a cheaper hobby. thanks.

Allan if you get antifreeze or water into the oil it looks thick and grey or creamy white and you have creamy white sludge on the filler cap, not green oil. Get an oil sample done if you are worried.

Just a clarification.... There is anitifreeze in the oil. Not to shook up over it, however, has anyone worked on these motors?? Have done my Farmall M, but this would be my first foray into a diesel. is this more likely a head and or gasket problem, or perhaps a liner problem. the M has dry sleeves, this is wet sleeved.

most likely the o-rings at the bottom of the liners you will have to pull the head and then the liners about 8 hours worth of work depending upon how stuborn the liners are on a 410 you can do everything in frame with new liners conrods a pistons and cam the 4 cyl diesels are easier than any gas engine i have ever done- rich
