I am interested on buying a dozer for a cattle ranch. Is there a comparative study I can look at it to figure out how to select the dozer?
Regards,
Alex

Alex, I looked and studied this for 1.5 years befor I broke down and bought one, you have a lot to concider, size being the easiest of the process. If you are concidering one, then you already know what you are going to do with it, if the larger stuff is little to none and only ocassionally, go with a smaller one, they will do it, just takes longer. If all your stuff is big jobs, go bigger, but the smaller stuff is harder to do. So now you know what size, but what name. Face it, you are going to work on it, this is unavoidable, going to happen. You need to figure out how far you have to go after parts, and how much they are going to cost for a paticular name brand. Cat of course has the name, but you pay for the name, and pay dearly. I have a cat dealer 20 miles away, a Komatsu dealer 35 miles away, and a case dealer 110 miles away, case was out, too far away, came down to cat and komatsu, basically the same, they both will do the same work, Komatsu prices were better than cat on common parts, could usually get them over night, and not too far away. Komatsu purchase price was lower for similiar size machine, and seemes to hold value about the same, which ment I could buy a newer Komatsu for the same money as an older cat, so I went komatsu, and havent looked back. I moan and groan about having to replace my tracks, but they are a far cry less than cat tracks, and are not that difficult to work on, pretty much straight forward. good luck, and think about the entire picture befor buying, and check e-bay as well, thats where I found mine..... D..... ....

Alex I think it all comes down to what you need and can aford. If you have a lot of stuff to move and you will be moving it often then you sould think About getting somthing large with some power. And if you are looking for something that you will take out of the barn once every so often you may want to look at something smaller in size. I hope you find what is right for you and if you are looking for something used you might want to look at the iron planet equipment search or point 2 equipment they have some good stuff.
