my 550 broke the pin that holds the swing cyl. chains, now both the cylinders have retracted, how does one get them out in order to hook them up again? I have tried every thing I can think of besides takeing off the back hoe in order to remove a line to releave the pressure. Will air pressure at the cross over line work?

You've got to take one of the pressure lines that go to the front of the swing cylinders loose. There is a hydraulic lock valve on the X shaped support on the backhoe frame behind the rear axle. Sometimes you can get the line loose at this valve with a crow-foot wrench on an extension. You just need to loosen it you don't have to remove. The hydraulic lock valve keeps the hoe from swinging when you're not activating the valve and unless you cylinders are really bad you can't pull them out against it.
