I just got a 40C that's been sitting for about 7 yrs. The left lever moves freely, but I can't get the right one to budge. How should I go about unsticking it without tearing something up? Thanks, Bryan

When I've encountered a shaft "rust-frozen" inside a casting, I've done the following:
Drilled into the outer casting far enough to reach the 'stuck' shaft; then tap the hole and install a 1/4 inch grease zerk. I then put Kroil(penetrant) into a grease gun and use the grease gun to pressure feed the Kroil into the frozen area. Wait a while and maybe reapply, lighting tapping with a hammer in the area, to encourage dispersion of the Kroil. This also worked on loosening some detent balls/springs on an AC HD-5G transmission, that had been sitting outside for at least 10 years.

Ro, I wasn't very clear. The lever will move slightly, but it seems like the stuck part is actually the clutch itself. I don't have the little crawler running yet, but I wanted to try to break the clutch loose so I can try to pull start it. Thanks, Bryan

Is there a way to get a diagram of the final drive via email? I have a shop manual for my model 40 wheel tractor, but it doesn't cover the crawlers. Maybe the finals are the same???

Yeah just take it apart. It's not that bad a job. Especially if you could get a diagram or service manual like you say. It's possible that you will do more damage or cause unnecessary wear if everything is not cleaned up good.

Open the top (four bolts) and front (bung) covers and watch what moves while you wiggle the handle. Chances are the stuck part is the throwout bearing, which rotates against a detent. You can reach it with oil and patience, but opening up the final is yyour best bet. Look in the left side to see how it moves.
