Thanks

Mr. Ant;

The serial No. name plate is located on the left side of the shaft/ clutch housing. It is held on by 2 blind rivits. However the serial No. is also stamped on a flat just behind the Hydralic pump and can be seen from the right side of the engine. Also it is stamped on the top of the transmission housing on the left side on a machined flat as well. There may be many layers of paint hiding it so you may have to scrape or use a bit of sand paper to read it. If orginal all the numbers will match.

i would sudjest you take the engine block to a good engine machineshop, they can measure the bore and give tell you if there is pistons that will fit the bore, also they can sleve the cylinders back to the standard bore if they are worne too much.. its alot cheaper to go this route than try and get another engine and possibly have the same problem/

The bore measures 4.044 and the piston slops around in it with .095 to .100 clearance which I know is wrong. What engine is this? What is the max I can bore it out? The walls look to be a little on the thin side right now and it isn't sleeved.

Thanks

Sounds like a the replacement M,40,320, and 330 block. Does it have a dipstick/filler on the right hand side of the block?
I can get pistons up to .125 over. I have had a block sonic checked for wall thickness, and my engine shop does not recommend .125 over for a machine that is to be worked hard on a regular basis.
Otherwise, bore it and sleeve it back to standard. I would recommend getting a 420 engine and putting back in it. You will like the additional horsepower.

Yes it does have the dipstick/filler on the right hand side of the block. Any other larger engines fit it?

Max size on this engine is 4.125" Deere does not have this size. .045 is max from Deere. Restoration Supply will sell you pistons that are .125" over as well as .090" over. Main bearing are available too. But... the wait is weeks depending on the size required.

I know what you are talking about. My engine was seized, the crank cracked bearings shot. I also had to put hardened seats on the exhaust values, nothing left to machine.

Any other questions, email me.
