Battery question

I recently purchased a JD 450 crawler loader.

I will probably have to replace the battery real soon.

I was told that it originally came with two 6-volt wired in a series for 12-volts out. It has a large 12-volt battery now. I'm not sure why it would have had 2 6-volt originally.

My question is will two 6-volt wired in series give more cranking amps that a 12-volt?

Phil

that machine should have come with two 12volt batteries connected in parrallel for higher cranking amps....if it was ordered that way...if you live in a cold climate and plan on starting it in the winter at all, I would suggest the two 12 volt batteries. It will save much aggrevation in the long run.

Two 6 volt batteries, hooked in series, produces the higher cranking amps, than the average group 27, 12 volt batteries. Two twelve batteries hooked in parrall will produce a longer cranking time, but not higher amps. Diesel equipment often run the series 6 volt hookup. Hope this helps. Ron

Depends on the batteries but you can get a modern 12 volt battery with more than enough power to start your 450 and you can buy the 12 volt battery for about the same price as one 6 volt.
