help! my 500 crawler doesn't crawl anymore forward or back. before i tear the machine completely apart to get into the powershift clutches, as described in the service manual, does anyone have any advice of what to check?

changed the filter, checked the hyd/trans oil already....is there a screen on the suction to check? the pump makes a buzzing noise. would this indicate a bad pump or could it indicate a suction problem?

the machine was being driven when it stopped suddenly and would go no farther. it was not abused or even pushing with the blade at the time of failure.

thanks,

stewart

Stewart, that buzzing sound sounds like either airation(air getting into the suction line) or cavitation(restricted suction line). I believe there is a screen in the pump suction line at the bottom. I have heard you need to take the skid pan off to get to it. Check this first.

been a while since I posted here. found out the problem was the shaft that runs from the engine flywheel into the hydraulic pump for the clutch has very small fines splines on the rear end of it. these were stripped out from use over the years. Just got the engine out of the machine last night what a bear of a job. no new parts available, so found a machine shop that does this sort of stuff($$$). guys, be gentle with your 500 powershifts, they will break, only a matter of time, but you can make them last longer if you drive like you were dozeing on eggshells, maybe:-)
