D3B Starter or Battery Problems?

When I let my D3B sit for a week or two it is hard to start. Seems to turn over slow. The battery seems ok and it does the same thing if I have jumper cables and/or a battery charged hooked up. I don't crank long and I will see a little smoke coming from the starter motor area.
I tried charging the battery and jumping directly to the starter with the same results. Is there a common part that goes on the starter or selenoid?
Thanks Steve

Hello,

I have a Ford Tractor, One morning It won't start at all so I replaced the battery and still doesn't start. So i am wondering what the next thing I should check.. like the Starter or the solenoid, or the Alternator. I have a Fluke 77 Multimeter and I checked the new battery, it is 14.80.. IT is good and How can i check the Alternator and Starter with my multimeter?

Kindly Regards
Jake

There is two likely reason for the starter motor turning over slowly, water has got into the motor or the brushes could be sticking,if one brush is sticking it will give the flat battery effect.

When jumping to the starter did you connect to the terminal bolt or the cable end?
You may have a bad connection right at the terminal. Feel it to see if you are getting hot right at the end of the cable.

Steve, I think that you need a starter repare. If the starter is in poor shape it will draw heavy current and get hot. I would say to load test the batterie first, then check the cables too but I think you have eliminated that already.
