I have a 3T cable bull dozer and am not getting spark on my pony motor to start it. Does anyone out there know about magnetos and how they work. Is it like points on an older automobile? Could they just be stuck. I have not taken it apart yet without knowing what may be wrong inside of there.

A magneto works simalar to a normal dist but
does not require a battery as it has a built in generator to provide its own power{this is a simple explanation} and has its own coil points
and condenser inside. I assume you had this cat
running before and has been parked for awhile. remove cap {4 screws} and remove rotar, using a proper point file, lightly file points ,they usually get a little corrosion on them when
not in regular use. Get a helper to crank pup motor while you watch for spark at
points. removing plugs makes this easier. If you
have a weak spark try filing a little more.If cant get any spark it will be necassary to remove it.

I took the magneto off and could feel spark, thats right feel it. After I shocked myself a few times I figured that I must be getting spark. I used some different wires and got spark to the plugs but it is not regular. I can't spin the Pony motor fast enough to get the necessary spark. Any ideas?

sounds like you might have moisture or a cracked cap. You don't have to spin a Mag. fast to get spark, thats the purpose of the impulse. Theres a spring under the metal cap when you turn the cap it should turn part way then snap which spins the mag fast producing the spark. You might have dirt or a broke impulse spring if it doesn't snap when you turn it.
