Water in the transmission fluid. How did it get there? How to stop it from recurring and the best way to remove it. Thanks, any advise is always useful.

I have a 4500 backhoe..... I get water in my trans when left uncovered in the rain. Seems it finds a way to get in(maybe thru the shift lever)
BTW I am looking to upgrade from my 4500 to a newer hoe. There is a guy who has a late '80's 555B for sale...$14K How do you like yours???? Anything you can tell me about the Ford 555 ( I think it is a 3 cyl diesel) Is it a strong machine, dependable etc etc.....thanks alot baron

Yes I do like the machine. It is a three cyl diesel made in the uk. Ford had a problem with them and replaced them at some point. I have had mine for 2 yrs and the water in the trans is the only problem to date.It is an 86 purchased for 10500.
