I recently purchased a 500C and have already worked it good. I changed all the vital fluids and greased the fittings as well as some other minor adjustments. I did adjust the brake levers as the foot pedal wasn't working and soon after that I started having a problem on the right. I can feather the left brake and turn or pivot without any problems but when I try the right side I have to pull hard on the lever to pivot at all and no feathering is allowed whatsoever. I also smelled brake pad or clutch when operating prior to my adjustments. I cleaned the brake lever housing area with carb cleaner which helped a little. Also my manual says to keep the drain plugs open and has an arrow pointing to where they are but I simply do not see them.

Any help is appreciated,
Tim

My steering 500c steering clutch compartments were not draining, condensation in the compartment caused the fiber clutch plates to swell up, they wouldn't release. I had the clutches out for other service and discovered the problem. After cleaning out the compartment (Oak tree leaves!!) and clearing out the drain holes, and rebuilding the clutches, no more problems since the last adjustment, and the clutches release much better. Yeah, you might not have the leaves, but I'd venture that the compartmens drains are not open.

Sounds like you may have a clutch thats not releasing. Or maybe just a worn out brake band. Is there still brake adjustment left on that side? May need to pull steering clutch. If you need parts give us a shout at www.pdmechanical.com

there is still adjustment left on that side, same on both sides, in fact I can adjust the brake so it will not work at all or be on constantly. Sounds like the problem is in the clutch, I'll have to look at how it is disenguaged.... Also that sounds like a big job to R&R the clutch...?

Thanks for the info
Tim
