I just bought a 420 and It's a good thing my Dad's not around anymore, cause he always said "Em John Deeres will drive a decent mechanic nuts". I know nothing but ALLIS CHALMERS. At any rate it's a creme color but under neith it was JD green. It's got over size tracks and a pendle hitch on the rear. Also bug lights & grill protector. Should I paint it green or creme or maybe I should paint it orange. It runs like a swiss watch but has a miss in it. Instead of going Prrrrr r It goes Putt Putt Thanks for any info. Al Beach

Al,
Paint it green and yellow, or Industrial Yellow, whichever suits you.
As far as the miss, sounds like it is only hitting on 2 cylinders(hah hah).

Al, I am currently rebuilding a 440 JD crawler, I found cream paint on my final drives, and other places, also found a light green color. Part of the deal is, I think I have quite a few parts from other machines. I was also told back in the day when these machines were built it was not uncommon for the factory to paint any color that you might want. As far as color I saw a pic of an ag 440 that was green with yellow track rails, I plan to use mine much more than show it, so that is what I am going to do, and the bottom layer of paint is mostly green anyhow. I am quite sure the 420's came green and industrail yellow.
