I found a D2 sitting in a fence row that's probably been there for a long time (trees are growing around it.) The serial# is 5U 3248. Can someone tell me what year it is? It appears to be complete, with a hydraulic loader (no bucket on it.) It has an electric starter on the starting engine, and has a generator too. The starting motor is stuck, and I don't know if the diesel engine is stuck. It still has most of the yellow paint. The tracks look kind of rough, and the have smooth pads without grousers. The Track rollers & sprockets look OK. Drive clutch lever seems to be stuck, steering cluch levers move. The guy that owns the land it's on said he didn't know what model it was, or what it's worth, so he would accept any fair offer I give. Any ideas what I should offer him? Since it's only 5 miles from my house, I can't pass it up.

It's worth a lot for part's breakdown, but with all the "stuck" issue's, no loader, and who knows what, I would not rebuild. I have one, with clean 6 way blade adaption, in very good condition, and I would not sell it for less than $5,500. Have a friend with one, original straigh dozer blade, he want's $4,000 for it.
But like I said, part's are big bucks, so if you can pick it up cheap go for it.

If it has a loader on it it might have a 5 roller track system which is probably rare. what state are you in. If you don't want it and its not to far away I would be interested in it as a project (money pit).

5U 3248 would be a 1949

With so many unknowns on this tractor it is worth scrap price.

I was thinking about offering $200 for it, figuring that if nothing else the electric starter on the pony engine is worth that. I think I paid about $180 for an electric starter for our D4 three years ago. You never know what problems are hiding in the machine. I put about $1200 into our D4 to replace both steering clutches and the drive clutch.
