IH 500 gas crawler carb. problem

My 500 gas crawler vintage 1966 seems to have a fuel feed problem, part of it stems from the fact that the fuel tank needs about 8 gallons of fuel in just to bring it up to the level of the carburator. Then it needs quite a bit more to give it enough head pressure to keep it feeding.
I can't find a kit for the Bendix carb, but wonder if it is possible to put an electric fuel pump on it with a bypass of some sort to give it full delivary at all times? The lines and carb are not plugged and I have checked the float. Anyone have insight into this annoyance?

My T-5 did the same thing. I had the carb off more
than it was on. Still couldn't get it to work right, so I bought a brand new one. I haven't put
it on yet, but I'm hoping that will solve the
problem. The manuals I have for my tractor make
no mention of an electric fuel pump, although I think one would work good. My dad's Case 310 has
a factory electric fuel pump, and it starts great.

Go for it. If you get the right pump a bypass won't be necessary. The pump will stop pumping whe the pressure builds. NAPA has a good industrial type pump. It's barrel shaped with inlet and outlets on the side. I beleive it's in their "Parts and Accessories" book.

I thought they came with electric pumps standard, I know my T4 did, and the 500 replaced that series.

My T5 as well came with a electric fuel pump, but you could also get them with a mechanical fuel pump.
