Can anyone tell me something about these bearings?
The # on them is 1n3821 / 5nadu a / 0.25u.s These are cat numbers. Are they oversized already? This crank is rough, two spun rod bearings. Anyone know where I can get a used crank?

I once worked for a Cat Dealer and have seen this problem before. The numbers 0.25u.s. appear to be inch readings but are not. The number 0.25 in metric (MM) would be equal to 0.010 inches. These bearings would be for a crank that is 0.010 undersize. But the problem is that the manufacture made the bearings 0.025 inches oversize, which are for a crank that is 0.025 inches undersize. I have seen these .025 inch (.25 MM )oversize bearing placed in engines that had a .010 (.25 MM ) undersize cranks. The .025 oversize bearings will destroy a crank that is only .010 undersize. I first notice this problem in the mid 1980's but continue to see the bearings several year later. I did some researh ( in the 80's )and learned that the bearings were not manufactured by Cat. Cat bearings will have the Cat symbol stamped near the number. Other manufactures can used the part number but not the Cat symbol. Engines that I found this problem with had just been rebuilt and had starting problems. That was the complaint from the owners and operators. It was a problem with the 3204 and 3208. Sorry I had bad news! good luck

My suggestion is to purchase an after market crank. You can get one (NEW) for about the same Price as a used or rebuilt crank. If you need mor infor E mail www.mindspring.com/~camjoey. that is a machine shop I use for heavy equip machine work .
