Hey guys, I got on here tonight after a few days away and saw all the posts about stuck equipment and how to get it unstuck, and it made me think about a story a friend of ours told me years ago. He said when he was over in Vietnam, he saw a D-8 CAT get stuck in a rice patty. Nobody around close had anything big enough to pull it out, but one of the guys in his batallion swore he could get it out, said he had just the ticket. Turns out the guy was a demolitions "expert" and thought he could place a few sachel charges around it and blast the mud away...at least that's what he told them the plans were...but I think they all had their suspicions.... He said when the charges went off and the smoke cleared, the dozer was out of the mud.....or more exactly there wasn't anything recognizable left but a big hole in the mud, and there were pieces of the dozer falling all over the place..... He said they had guys calling in from 5 miles away wondering what the HE-- had just went off. Now I can't vouch for the truth of this, you all know how "tall" tales can get after the fact, butfact or fiction, I think it is a good lesson in how NOT to get a machine unstuck.
