I bought a 56 4 roller in the fall for $2,000. Has a #61 (single piston) blade. Tracks fair to good, sprockets good, idlers excellent, rolls unknown. Needs a total take apart and put together to fix a couple of known defects (both top studs that hold transmission to center frame are stripped, side plates are cracked, blade hoist is broken and needs welding, steering brake is broken. It runs good and no strange noises in transmission. It was a good deal for me because I have a parts machine with most of what I need to fix this one. As you described yours, I would say at least $3000 and maybe $3500 if it is real nice. Good ones around here (New Hampshire) are $4000+.

My neighbor has a 57 420 5 roller with blade and winch. Hasn't run in a couple years, but is free. Tractor appears complete and in average condition. Knows my likes for tractors and wants me to buy it, but I'm not into crawlers. Think he would take $3000 for it. Says it needs a battery, cables and a little TLC. Thought I'd look it over a little closer in the spring when the snow is gone.

I paid $2500 for a '56 that was seized and had a bad hyd pump, also other minor problems. Put about $1000 into it and figure I got a good deal. It has a homemade winch (out of a car rearend), brackets for a logging boom, and a #62 twin-cylinder dozer blade.

I use my 420 for everything, I bought it cheap because the engine was seized up, freed the engine and have been using it ever since...I was out pushin snowbanks with it 2 days ago, it is stored outside, but it started in -19 degree weather,,I love it,,I have made shooting lanes in the woods with it, built a road to my camp and cleared some land,, its small but does a lot of work,,,,Jim
