On my backhoe when I put it in float position it seems everything just drops. Then I cannot position or tilt my bucket at all. ( cannot move nothing) Is this normal or should I be able to still move that bucket some?

Jack, it would depend on what valve gets oil from the pump first. Usually the tilt gets oil first then the lift circuit. On open center valves they cut off the flow through the center to capture the flow for the circuit you are using and no oil gets to the next spools in line. Some open center circuits have parrallel rails that provide pump oil to all spools reguardless of their movement. I don't know anything about your machine, did you get it used? Have any hyd acessories been added like a Power Beyond valve and another spool? Are there any quick disconnectors in any of the lines?

Bob yes I got it used and it is a 310B JD.
I just remembered the hydro lines for the bucket are on wrong they need to be reversed. (the side to side, tilts or levels the bucket)
Can this be why I am having this problem?
I never crossed my mind till now.

That shouldn't cause that problem Jack. What you are saying is that if you move the lever away from you the bucket rolls back and if you move it towards you it dumps, that is backwards, might have too low of a line relief setting to roll back when reversed. Does the bucket have lots of force to breakout a load when you are not in float?

The float circuit essentially opens both sides of the boom cylinders to tank so the bucket will ride on the ground for leveling or smoothing.

With the boom spool shifted the loader section is in essence shorted out of the ciruit. The tilt function should work if the bucket is tilted all the way down with the bucket edge riding on the ground. Gravity will let the boom down when the tilt lever is shifted to the down position. You won't be able to tilt it back though.

Hope this helps.
