Hydro/Trans fluid

Blew a line and lost all my hydro/trans fluid.
Put in a new line and spent $90.00 at the JD place for the 12 gal. of new fluid I needed.
Noticed when I emptied the little of the old stuff I had left in the machine, the color was so off to me. It was like a white, greenish, gray color. Could this mean I had water in my fluid?
Or what did the person before me that owned it have put in?
When I saw that I even changed my filter.
This is a JD backhoe. Any clues?

If the transmission is also the hydraulic reservoir (not sure what model backhoe you have) sometimes it doesnt pay to put in the cheap oil...JD wet brakes sometimes "complain" afterwards by groaning and chattering when applied...

After the draining, new fluid and filter change, when I took a reading off the dipstick yesterday, it was still WHITE !!!!!
I'm sure I didn't get every drop of old fluid out but pure white color again!
Does this mean I have to change the fluid again?
Very expensive to do and yes I need the specail hydro/trans fluid because of the brakes.
Any suggestions or whats happening.
Thanks

Bad news and worse news, I've been down this road on a backhoe, when you changed the fluid every cylinder and every line also has contaminated fluid in it. Only way I have found on a "have to change" situation is to use compressed air to blow out lines and cylinders. Pull cylinders and use the air to extend and contract until nothing comes out. Then change fluid. Only takes about a pint of water to do this. If you don't get it out the water can cause corrosion on the pump parts (not cheap), stuck valves, weepy o rings, and (the worst) if it gets really cold can actually freeze and burst all kinds of important and expensive stuff. Got a Case that I absolutely can't let it get rained on or this happens (15 gallons of fluid and 2 $40.00 filters). Now, for what it's worth, I use Coastal Multitrac in everything (wet brakes, power shifts) it lists that it subs for your JD fluids. Costs $30.00 per 5 g pail (or $285 for a 55g barrel). Getting that water out will be the cheapest $90.00 you'll ever spend. I figure $2.00 per machine hour on my rate for oil and fluid changes.

i'm by no means a guru on heavy equiptment but that sure sounds like water to me...could be condensation buildup if fluid hadnt been changed in awhile. on subject of fluid...everybody around here uses R&O hyd fluid in their backhoes...dunno pros and cons but its only about 13 bux a five gallon bucket locally...i use 303 fluid in my 350b and its only about 20 a bucket...ya mite wanna check around...8 bux a gallon for fluid sure seems high to me...even if it is in purty JD container ;)
