The tag on the block reads 8T-8081 its out of motor grader. Is that the motor # or the Machine #? Is it a 318 or what? Any help would be appreciated LOL Bill

Bill R,
8T-8081 would be a 1951 #12 blade, that engine is almost bullet proof.

Hi, Bill. For a lotta years the same motor went into the Cat 12 graders and the D6 crawlers and you couldn't beat either to death with any amount of hard work. Even in the graders at flat out down the road, the pistons still only go up and down in time with the telegraph poles. They would lug down and keep pulling like VERY FEW other engines I have ever come across and that's been a few.

Later versions of the Cat. 12 engines in the 21F series machines used to break crankshafts at the second main bearing journal -- not often enough for it to be common knowledge amongst operators but several servicemen/repairers that I spoke to said it did happen from time to time, always on that second main journal. For whatever reason, it apparently did not occur in the older engines.

Treasure that little darlin', Mate.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Bill the D318 6 cyl was used in the older graders. Does it have a 2 cyl opposed starting engine on the back of it? Don't have a serial# book here to check for you.

If it's got one spark plug on each side you got a D318 Bill. That's a long life engine, they will be going long after we stop:<)
Later Bob

Bob
We have this old cat 12 grader that a buddy ran low on oil and stacked a rod bearing and ruined the crankshaft. I have heard about an engine that came out of a cotton gin. I'm going to look at it this week. The kid said it was the same engine was running and been in a barn under tarp a few years. Hope its the same can get it for scrap iron price. Thanks for your help Bill
