I HAVE A 1964 D7 THAT MAKES A GRINDING IN THE REAR OF THE TRANSMISSION WHEN IT TRYS TO PULL[ STARTED WHILE PUSHING OUT A STUMP] YOU CAN HOLD THE RIGHT STEERING CLUTCH AND IT WILL ATTEMPT TO PULL BUT THEN GRIND. IT SOUNDS LIKE A RING GEAR PINION SITUATION NOT MESHING[MAYBE A BEARING OUT] ANY HELPFULL INFO? THANKS

Is it a 17A? Anyway pull of the rear cover(winch drive) and put a bar behind the bevelgear. That will tell you if the bevelgear bearings are okay, should have no movement. Email Me if you want more info.
