I collect crawlers and would like to find a T4, I have a narrow gauge T340 and know of a wide gauge but would like to find a T4 to go with mine. Also any of you IH crawler buffs ever see a T2, I guess there were very few made, they were a mini IH crawler. Would like to find one of them also.

There were no T2s, that gut thinks it is a IH crawler cause it has a IH power unit for engine. There are no IH casting makes on it other than the engine. I think its a Midgi built in Calif. It was built for close quarter work such as foundrys, barns and barge & ships holds. My T4 is for sale if the price is right. See a photo of it at the tractor photos page on this web site.

Not sure, They started building them in last 3rd 1959 for the 1960 model year. Serial numbers started at 501 and went up from there. My number is 2477 and I found some 2-60 casting dates on it, so I call mine a 1960. IH archives does not have any dating info on the T4s,5s & TD5s because they were built in Canada. I'm getting ready to update and send out the registry newsletter I started a few years ago for these tractors. If you would like it let me know with your email address. Its free.

Thanks for the fast response. I had checked my references for the model year, but could not come up with anything; also checked the on-line registry with negative results. I am considering buying this unit. It was purchased by a local farmer--new or nearly new--and has been well cared for with little use over the years. Would the D after the serial number designate "Dozer"? It has a manual angled blade. Also, were they all equipped with 1000 RPM PTOs? Thanks again for your help. If you can, please email your newsletters to : thepopes@gcnetmail.net.

D stands for transmissiom driven pto. They used different letters after the serial number to id options that the tractor had. Yes its 1000 rpm but no one used it because of the small power plant. They offered reduction boxes to bolt on for 540 rpm. The first 3 years built its agreed that dozer blades didn't come with these small tractors. They were built as "Compact Farm Crawlers" like the title of the sale brouchure read. I put a photo of mine on the tractor photos page so you can see how complete your may be. I'm
also sending you the news letter tonight. Good luck with your decision.
