Looking to get an 1980's model D6D Cat dozer. What are your opinions about this model machine?

Hi, Campro. The D6 C's & D's are as good a medium- sized 'dozer as any that has ever been built. If you have the work to warrant it and can find a good one, it is unlikely you will go wrong with one of these. Just check it over very carefully before laying out your hard-earned, even to the extent of taking oil samples and having them analyzed. And test operate it - if possible for at least 15-20 minutes until everything has warmed up. This will help to show up things like worn steering pumps, etc., which usually lose power as the oil warms up and becomes thinner, making the steering controls harder to operate. As with any purchase, be careful. They're your bucks.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Deas, even if he gets one that needs some repairs if he fixes it right, it stays fixed.

Hi, Bob. Very true, Mate. But if he can pick up one that doesn't need any major bucks spent on it to begin with, he'll likely be ahead of the game.

Don't worry Bob, I'm a Cat fan of 45 plus years, ever since I started operating my father's little Cat 22 'dozer and a neighbour's Cat 20 'dozer while I was still going to high school.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Campro you would be a lot better off with that than the D3 Hystat, not too big to move around either. If you don't take that one the D6C's are good machines as well.

Good tractor. I've got a D6D 4X series with over 14,000 hrs on it. Easy to service and operate. YOu should be able to find a good D6D for under $30,000.
