Belly Guard/Pan

I recently received a 1976 cat 951B track loader that I'd paid for seven months ago. It was delivered twice not operating properly (transmission) It was delivered again Friday and seemed to be OK, so I started using to clean up some old brush and wood piles. After backing up, I noticed a leak and looked under the loader and found a partial stump lodged up by the transmission which had punctured a line. My question: was not the 951B suppose to have a belly pan of some kind to eliminate this type of mishap? If so, I'm suspecting that the people I purchased it from, when working on the transmission may have forgot to put it back in place. If it did not come with a belly guard then the machine is worthless for allot of the type work I need it for.
Thanks! in advance for any insight as to whether or not this machine was equipped with a belly pan originally.

I'll bet if you check the new equipment price books you will find the belly pan is "optional equipment". Necessary - yes, but optional.

No Possum all cat track loaders and dozers come with them. Wheel loaders have optional ones and the Challenger ag tractors don't as they have ground speed sensers pointing down at the ground. Track loaders and dozers are always getting stuff coming up at the engine and trans when digging, loaders usually work at a pile of sand or gravel and work on a clean surface, ag tractors don't often have any underside dammage either working where they are meant to work.

Oh yes they had belly pans, I see this same situation you describe alot but usually I see the engine belly pan missing and they run up on a stump and bust the oil pan, I saw this a while back the guy knew when he busted the oil pan but decided he would try and run it back to the house (bout 100 yards) so it would be closer for someone to work on it, well you probably guessed it didnt make it, I went and pulled the engine gave him a quote to fix it and evidently he didn't like it cause he came and got the stuff and went elsewhere with it, but I noticed just the other day the machine is still sitting where I pulled the engine still with no engine in it. Oh and BTW this guy is an airline pilot wouldn't yall feel good flying with him?

It's part of the job Tractorman, I'v worked on Heavy Equipment for years and you should see the big pile of stuff I have left over because I didn't know where it went or forgot to put it back on machines. Buz should really go back where he got that machine an get his skidpan that's likely laying on the shop floor, before someone trips over it.

Thanks!...I figured they must have had one originally but being as naive about heavy equipment as I am, I thought I'd ask. Thanks! again for the response.
