I am going to look at a 350B crawler loader this weekend and would appreciate some info. Owner says machine has only turned in one direction for several years, recently let machine sit for 6 months now machine only goes straight. Does this machine have self adjusting brakes/clutches? Does this mean brakes/clutches are shot or may just need adjusting? Owner says diesel engine runs good, all other aspects of machine are good. What would be fair price if only the steering problem exists?

Thanks ahead of time for all your help.
Derek

The steering clutch discs and plates are stuck together, you cant let a dry clutch machine sit like that, they will stick nearly every time, they do not have self-adjusting brakes and clutches and it doesn't necessarily mean the brake bands and clutch discs are worn out their just stuck together, brand new discs will stick if it's not used, aftermarket parts will be about $1000 to replace everything on both sides and labor charges on top of that, I recently sold a 350B for $7000 in good working shape, I'd probably try to get it in the $3500-$4000 range and hope nothing else is wrong.

Gatractorman knows what he is talking about!! I'v got a old 1010 and I pulled off the left side final drive and changed the clutches 3 years ago. I'v got to pull both sides now because they are not working right again . They will be all rusted up again ,I'm sure of that. Same old story, a person has to start these old machines every so often and run them to keep them free. Hope you make out ok . Fasteddy's 1 cents worth!!!

Well, I went to look at it. The engine runs great, had it running for a good 45 min or so. Hydraulics are good, loader is good, almost no wear on any of the joints. The tracks and sprockets are good, I would estimate them at about 85% - 90%. Now the questions. While driving around, one side will engage the brake but will not turn, you can feel and hear it when giving a good pull on the control, this side doesn't feel like it is doing anything until the brake starts to apply. This I would guess the clutches are stuck together, possibly filled with a build-up of rust? The other side doesn't appear to do anything, however it does feel much better on this side but does nothing Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Derek, sounds like what we have been saying. The steel disc between the fiber ones which make up the clutch are probuly all rusted up.When working properly you should be able to pull back on both levers just a little and dozer should coast to a stop. If clutches are stuck and brakes are working it should bog down when pulling on lever. It won't steer because the clutches on both sides are staying engaged. Hope this helps. I'll be selling a nice backhoe that goes on back if your interested e-mail me.
