Looking for a fair Allis Chalmers HD-16 dozer, or a machine possibly a little larger or smaller than the 16.

Must be in Ohio

Thank you

The HD 16 to be auctioned off in Va. May have only 396 hours on it but it must have been some awfully rough work since the blade has been worn out and patched and wore out again. The motor is locked up and full of water. The man said it had transmission problems also.

Hi JJ,

If you change your mind about location, I just got a farm auction (April 26) flyer today for one that's not running but has, they claim, 396 hrs. It's near Lynchburg Va. and should go cheap. Good luck with your search.

Tom

Yeah, DUH... I saw it after I posted my stupid question of the week... holy cow. I want to go up there. We are only an hour south. Got a ton of work to get done at the farm this weekend. Sure would like to give that machine a home, heck at least it would have a good under carriage if nothing else!

Hi Mike,

At least you'll get decent weather for your farm work this weekend. You did notice the auction's not until 2 weeks from Sat., on the 26th?

What I'd dearly love to witness is that crawler being pulled onto a trailer without it helping. You have the equipment to do that? You're right about that undercarriage, probably the only great shape one around, and most likely the last. I'll ask the guy crawling around on it if it's you. Doesn't sound like Jed's coming. Good luck!

Tom,

I'd almost be interested in that if I could figure
shipping from there to almost cleveland.
I know a guy who i could talk into hauling it for me in state but i'm not so sure that he'll want to
head out of state.

Thanks for the FYI,

jj

Hi JJ,

What does that little boy weigh? I think it might be a tad heavy for my trailer.

Here's the auction link. It's under Construction. No picture online but there's a small one in the flyer if you want them to send it. Let me know if you come. I'll probably be there looking at a Case.

You're welcome. Tom

That little boy weighs in at 32,000. Slightly more than i can haul too! One of the neighbors has one. It's a hog of a machine. 844 cubes. I don't know, but it's gotta be a 10' blade. I don't really need one quite that big, but if you can find those big "old" allis's they go cheap.

Maybe i ought be a little more realistic and post for an HD6....It's only 13,000.

Those weights are their test weights at the nebraska test station (approximate). I don't think those weights include a loader blade. Just the tractor by itself.

Hey, that pic is posted on the web site now. From the pic it doesn't look so bad, wonder why it isn't running.

Thanks for all your help!!!!

Hi Jed,

Thanks for the specs. Run it over your toe and I guess you'd notice... It'd sure do the 1/2 mile driveway I still have to cut. If it really has that few hours it couldn't look very rough. Still bigger than I want to deal with. You saw the auction list, it's an estate. Sometimes those incredibly low hours happen 'cause they just sit. Auctioneer is OK except last time around I bought a Link Belt crane that turned out to not have a title that they'd promised. I already had it home before I found that out.

I have a buddy with an HD11G loader with sad tracks if you're interested. My understanding is that it will need a bearing in the final drive soon. At present it's a lawn ornament (cheap) that was last started maybe two years ago. It's heavier than my Cat but I decided not to bring it home.

Good luck with your search.

Tom

Tom,

That HD11 is the detroit 2 cycle diesel isn't it?
Do you have an idea as to what your friend would want for it? I suppose he's down Va direction too. I'll have to do some thinking on this, try to figure out if there is possibility of sending the neighbor to get it.

Hey, are we having fun yet? Thanks once again,
jed

a HD 16 DOESN'T HAVE A DETROIT, it has a big 6 cylinder AC MOTOR IN IT.

Hi Jed,

LOL! I'll tempt you to visit Va yet. Tractor's a few miles from here, an hour north of the auction. Hey, we're going in the right direction for you.

I thought it had a Buda engine but I know next to nothing about these things which is only a little less than the owner. Seems like I did a search on this site and came up with some info. [Just tried a search and came up Buda.] He bought it as a project and didn't touch it. Price I'm not sure, but I expect it's hundreds not thousands. My understanding is that tracks are unavailable- here anyway.

If I can catch Huey I'll ask if it's OK to put his address up here. I think he has manuals and knows what it weighs. But his house just won't look the same without that big thing sitting there next to it!

Good evening Tom,

Here's some specs that i came up with for an HD11.
Couldn't
find the HD11G specifically though.

Industrial Version HD11B : 74hp at drawbar
22,000 lbs at nebraska test station
Allis Chalmers engine
6 cyl naturally aspirated
516 cubes

Several Ag versions:

HD11B
77 hp at drawbar
Allis 10000 series engine
6 cyl naturaly aspirated
516 cubes
21,000 lbs

HD11E
95 hp at drawbar
Allis 11000 series engine
6 cyl turbo
516 cubes
23,000 lbs

Need any more useless info? I'm full of it! Don't get your buddy's hopes up on shipping out
a yard ornament. I've still got some checking to do to see if i can make this work.
I'll have to see what my dad says too.

Take it easy
jed

Evenin' Jed,

Info's only useless if you have no use for it. As far as my buddy goes, I sent him a link. I certainly wouldn't suggest you head this way without knowing that it was running and ready to load. You don't know much about me, but I'd want to hear it run first. Calling it a yard ornament might be wrong, but Huey's ladyfriend was threatening to plant flowers in it. Let me (us) know if you're thinking about a trip.

IF you can come up with track, this looks like a good opportunity. It's been fun either way. And if 12 tons is too small there's still that auction...
