I have a D3B that has been a great little tractor however someone emptied a fire extinguisher down the exhaust and I did not know it until I started it up one morning now the motor is shot. My question is would I be better off getting a short block and reman head from Cat or have this one rebuilt (I will need to have it sleeved). Also is there an advantage to going with a 3 ring piston which the Cat short block will not have.
I just use the Cat for work on my farm.

Ron a Cat rebuild complete with cyl head might be the cheapest in the long run. It depends on how good the work is that the other rebuilder does. You need to ask a few people that have had engines rebuilt by them.

I have rebuilt many 3204s Have it resleved rebuild the head put the 3 ring piston in. Make sure you have the wrist pin bushings redone as they are a weak point. have the injectors rebuilt and run it. Normally 5,000.00 to do a rebuild. Dave
