A D8H is a 60,000 pound machine, with the blade. It is not a gas engine, it is a 300 hp diesel. Steering clutches are removed from the top after the fuel tank, and bevel gear cover/brake actuators are removed. The steering clutches and brake band weigh about 275 lbs. Repair cost for new steering clutches, rebuilt brake band, gaskets, seals, filters and 35-40 gallons of oil will run you around $5500.-$6500 parts and labor. The final drive, if it is totally wiped out, will run in excess of $8000. if the pinion is bad. Check the final first, because the steering clutch has to come out to replace the pinion gear. Also if the final is bad, the track will have to be broken, and the track frame removed. These prices are based on using aftermarket parts, and labor at $65./hr

Ron, most Cat models have a letter with them and when major changes where made the letter was changed too The 977K changed to 977L and and the D8H changed to D8K as improvements where made. I can get most specs you need but just be aware that anything you start to repair on that tractor will cost more than twice what you are going what you are about to pay for it.
