D6C Cat Question

I just purchased a D6C Cat, it has a coolant leak, and I took the bottom skid plat off, to inspect and clean, and the coolant is running out from behind the waterpump. Is it possible to remove the waterpump without removing the radiator first? I don't know if it's busted, cracked, or just the gasket, I can't tell until I get it off.

I just don't want to remove the radiator if I don't need to.

Yes you can get it off without taking the rad out. There are a few different engines in the D6C though and the pumps are all different. Is yours behind the fan or at the side?

It's offset to the fan (side). It's not directly behind the fan, like a car or something.

It just didn't look like there was room to drop it out the bottom or to bring it up from the top, but it might clear after I get it un-bolted.

I sure don't want to remove the radiator, unless I absolutely have to.

This is in a 1975 model, D6C 10K. I didn't specify that early, sorry.

Any info is appreciated.

Rodger, sounds like the face seal is leaking behind the impeller. Taking off the fan guard might help you a bit.

If I remove the fan guard, it might clear. If it's possible to get it out with removing the rad, I'll get it done.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the topic.

Rodger, I think if you get the hoses off it will unbolt from the top of the drive gear housing and come up towards you.

Take the 2 long bolts out the front cover. Take the 2 bolts out of the elbow on the ffont of the head loosen the hoses it should pull out 1.5 to 2 inches and comr out at the most you should have to remove the fan guard. The kits are inexpensive to rebuild the pump and you dont need a press or special tools. Dave
