Hi- my inlaws have an ancient D2 caterpillar. I'm told that it's 40's vintage, so it's around my dad's age... made well before my time. Anyway, it has a few dozen problems, but I'm told that if I ever get it running, one of the steering clutches is stuck. Is there any reliable way to "unstick" one of these steering clutches short of disassembly? There are some capped tubes sticking out of a few places on the machine where I'm told that you should add oil on occasion, and some people have told me to squirt various things down those ports- problem is, they'll only take a few drops at a time and I don't know that penetrating oil etc. would do much good anyway- any suggestions?

Jim if the clutch is frozen up you likely have to take it apart to free it up. If you get it running try to load it down and see if it breaks free. Later Bob
