I am more often than not alone when I need to change the bucket on my Ford Backhoe. It is sure a pain and strain to change. I am wondering if there are some old time hoe operators who have found an easier way to change the buckets to minimize the hassle and strain.

Get your self a piece of 3/4" steel rod a couple of feet long, place the end of the stick between the hangers of the bucket, put in the 3/4" rod, pick the bucket off the ground and put the stick hanging straight down and about 3' from the ground, have the tilt ram about halfway, you can now swing the bucket in and out,put in the tilt pin, move the stick so you can take the rod out and put in the pin,do not be reaching up to the levers, always get into the seat and save getting yourself chrushed if you pull the swing lever by mistake.

Thanks a bunch AJ! Thats the kind of easy way tip I was looking for I knew there had to be a pro operator out there somewhere that had a better way. This tip will definitely work. Bob

I am in the repair business and see the drivers doing it that way and it seemed to get the buckets on easy even the big backhoes.

If you change the bucket that often you should invest in an EZ Hitch or Quick Coupler. I have one on my hoe and can remove/re-install the bucket in a couple of minutes.

Here's a website that sells them: Link

Not sure how you are doing it but it never seems like a problem for me.
Set the bucket lightly on the ground at about half curl and then drive the cylinder pin out first and then the dipper stick pin.
Move over to the next bucket and set the dipper stick in but not down on the bucket. Put the pin in and then pick-up slightly and put the cylinder pin in. You can roll the bucket with your foot to line the cylinder and bucket up.
Hope that helps.
