I have a HD5 with a 2-71 Detroit Deisel When I fill my rad and it's not running it also fills my blower, But if It's running when I fill the rad it doesn't fill the blower.
Something is wrong but I don't know what. What might the trouble be? Tom

All 71 series have dry sleeves they dont have O rings. Try checking the water pump. If I remwember they are drivin off the blower. there are some plugs in the air box that can give trouble.

Not being entirely familiar with a 2-71 but have worked on alot of other Detroits, I'm gonna venture a guess that your liner o-rings are leaking, when they do leak they will fill the air box (the cavity inside the engine where the blower supplies air to the cylinders) as for the running question I can only assume the blower is keeping it pushed out the air box drain or its putting it back in the cylinders and the engine is burning it(white smoke). On the opposite side of the engine from the blower there should be a small metal tube coming out of the engine and connected to nothing this is the air box drain, also there should be an inspection plate on the side of the engine you can take off and look in at the liners. If it hasn't already it will soon start mixing water into your engine oil.
