My '61 1010C works for about a half an hour before it stops pushing a load and the reverser makes noises. At this time i am able to shift the reverser into reverse and drive backwards to where i park it. If i let it sit for awhile, i can start it up and work it for another half hour or so. Any insight on the problem and a solution would be great. I have found a rear end for a 430C. If my reverser is shot or not worth fixing would the 430C rear end bolt up to my engine?

I've rebuilt a lot of these reversers and there are many things that can cause your problem. Probably the noise you hear is the clutches in the forward clutch pack. Likely you've got low pressure. It's easy to check but, at this point, turning up the pressure probably won't help. The internal components are mostly made by Twin Disk Company, but I don't know of a good parts source other than John Deere. It is a very strong reverser; much better than what was used in the 440. The 1010 and the 350 use the same components, but some early 1010 suff gets updated to some 350 items. If you decide to pull it apart, and want advice or instructions along the way, ask me. It's a fairly simple device; input shaft, output shaft, a counter shaft, and two clutch packs. I'm not counting the control valve assembly on the outside. It wouldn't hurt to see if your main pressure, when hot, is between 125 - 150 psi when hot. You might also want to check the forward-reverse trimmer screw.

Dan,
430 is completely different, you will need the reverser out of another 1010. You can also remove the reverser, and put in a straight shaft to eliminate the reverser if you want.

Dan, If rev. oil level is ok and filter is ok then my guess would be one of the relief valves is bad or out of adj.Sounds like a job for a qualified mech.Good luck, let us know what you find.
