When I check my Hydro/Trans fluid should I do it cold? (I am getting a reading of full on the stick) I also warmed the JD backhoe up then shut off waited a few minutes got barely a reading on the stick. So I'm not sure if I am good or need to add. Someone please tell me which is the right way to check this fluid.

Dunno which model you have or exactly what you are checking.

The JD310D that I have has 3 separate reservoirs; the torque converter/reverser, the transaxle, and the main hydraulic system.

I suspect you are checking the reverser fluid. The level in the reverser is is to be checked hot and running. Same as with cars with automatic transmissions. When shut off overnight, enough fluid drains back from the torque converter to raise the fluid level on the dipstick to "drastically overfull". But it is the level when running that matters.
