Hello,

I have an earlier 1970's John deere 310 loader backhoe that sat for two years. It ran when parked two years ago (has about 10,000 hrs on her.) Went to start this year and she had minimal water in fuel tank, I drained water out of tank and now she will not start. Put in new battery, spins fairly fast, white smoke from exhaust but will not start. I hear the injector pump click when I turn key. Bypassed fuel system and sprayed ether lightly into intake but would not fire. Fuel pumping back into tank and all the way up to injectors. What about disconnecting hyd. pump and easying starting resistance?

Any info on how to start would be greatly appreciated .

thanks in advance, Paul

Paul I had a simalar problem with a John Deere cotton picker after sitting from one season to the next. Motor spun fast, white smoke, and ether did no good. Mechanic friend came out and said the rings in the tired engine had dried and had very little compression. He took the air cleaner hose loose and sprayed WD-40 in while cranking the engine. It fired right up and ran fine all picking season.

Try this, it worked on my old Perkins 3 cylinder before I rebuilt it.

Take a propane torch and heat the intake. Actually take the intake hose off, or remove a glow plug or something. Heat her up, but be warry of plastic lines or rubber hose.

I have started a bunch of tired engines like this. I'd crank her and suck the heat down into the liners, and she'd fire away. Avoid the ether.

Wayne,

It sounds like a great idea, I will try it the next time I am out there and will let you know if it works.

Thanks again,
Paul
