Cleaning out Dad's Grainary and found a crated 4 cyl flathead with no data plate. Block casting # F400A-613. Head casting # 4E23 next to firing order 1342. Governor in front housing, RH side. Distributor mounts dead center. Any Ideas? Thanx.

The numbers on mine are F400a-612. 0 1 and CWC. EL. I too need parts and a replacement short or long block if you have any leads.

Thanks Gents, I'll take another look and see what other numbers I find. I'd sure like to narrow it down to 2 possibles soon.

The F400A block sounds like it could be a Continental F124, F140 or F162 engine. The F124 was likely the most common engine. My F140 has the number embossed in the head though. Continental also put the numbers down by the oil pan on the block. I think it was on the right side.

Hercules put their motor # on the oil dipstick. Thus when you pull out the dipstick in an Oliver OC3, you will see IXB3 stamped on it. Wish other mfrs. would do that.
