After pondering my frozen steering cluch for 3 months, I went ahead and filled the clutch cavity with diesel fuel. Some have tried this with no luck after 2 weeks. I let it sit for 1 1/2 months. Pushed against a tree today and on the third try, it freed ! It now slips like a Mother --cker.

No problem.
Next is, I drain and fill with ACETONE to clean it out. I may spend 50 bucks in acetone but it will be WELL WORTH IT !

Mike

On my AC model m the manyal says to use gasoline to clean the stearing clutches.Fill the clutch comparement and run it make a lot of turns do this a couple times. Let it dry over night. Since you let it soak in diesel fuel for so long it may take several times. I have also used laquor thinner. What ever you do be sure you do it outside away from buildings

Hi, Mike. Congratulations. However, I think I'd rather clean the diesel out with gasoline than acetone considering that both are highly flammable and give off explosive vapours. The big plus of gasoline is that it is not corrosive like acetone. As an earlier poster said, that is MEAN stuff.

I think I'd be looking at filling the clutch case with gasoline, tying BOTH steering clutch levers back, letting it soak for a few hours, place wet sacks over the battery and starter, wind the engine over a few times with the transmission in top gear -- that's why BOTH steering clutch levers are tied back -- WITHOUT trying to start it, drain the gasoline out and blow a LOT of compressed air around in there, including directing it into the steering clutches themselves if possible (Before you unty the levers.) to dry it out before sealing it up.

You'll know if you dried it out enough if it doesn't explode the first few times you operate it, and I'm only 1/8 joking here. Don't be 'economical' (Read "stingy") with the amount of blow-drying you give it. You are talking about serious heat in a steering clutch case, way beyond the flash point of vaporized gasoline -- or acetone. It would not even be stupid to leave the whole case open - and that lever tied back - for a day or so before putting the cover plates back on and the plugs back in.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful operating career.
Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Mike

Be VERY careful when messing with acetone, it is seriously mean sh*t. More than anything, wear goggles!

AND combustible!! - make sure you blow everything dry before getting any ignition sources anywhere near it. Be safe.
