Jeff, Pulling to one side, pedals uneven is a Bad Bad sign. Manual is $100.00. Parts for brakes about $600.00. +++. Depending how bad it has gotten. Very easy to access, look on sides of trans/rear housing. Recommend you disassemble it entirely, inspect it,
repair it now before it really gets expensive. Follow your handbrake lever to the adjusters, go from there.
It really is a simple setup, once you figure out the bands actuate the discs. Remove the brake housings complete and bench check them. Maybe someone has parts source cheaper. E-mail me if necessary. Jim B.

I have a 580c. Problem Right brake peddle goes all the way done w/no hyd. pressure. Master cyl. is full. Acts like linkage has been removed.

I had the brakes completely rebuilt when I bought the tractor, although I think I have a leaky
wheel cylinder though.

thx everyone for the info!

I've worked on quite a number of old 580's, and I've never seen one where the self adjusters actually work. We always removed them and put a lock nut against the adjusting nut. If you've never adjusted them before, it might be worth your time to remove the floor plate so you can see what you're doing. I usually adjusted them so that each lever moved about 3/8" and the pedals were even. If this doesn't take care of the pulling problem (and it's likely that it won't), you may have linings coming apart or a stub shaft seal leaking oil into the brake housing. Have a look at the brake housings and see if oil is leaking out... If oil is leaking into one, pray to god or allah or somebody that it's not the side with the diff lock.

the 580C has self adjusting brakes and work quite well if all of the pieces were left on. I would venture to say you most likely have problems with the disc's and/or bands. If you want to still try adjusting first though, there is a serrated nut on top of the brake lever on each side that can be tighten.

The brake adjustment is on the brake housing on the sides of the transaxle

You don't have to pull the wheels.Get a good spot to crawl under it,you might not have to raise it up to do it,depends on how big you are.
