IHC TK40 Dozer?? HELP

Looking for a little advice. I found a IHC TK40 Dozer (1936 or 1937). Gas engine. New hydraulic rams. Runs good. Has a draw bar with little wear. Dozer blade is in good shape. Clutches and brakes work good. Was a formerly used in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He said it is ready to go to work right away. This is what the gentlemen selling it has told me (I have not seen the machine).

I have 5 acres that I live on that needs some dirt work done. Leveling, grading, filling low spots, and pushing some small cottonwood trees over. I am not a mechanical genius but can do most basic work on things.

I am wondering what a good price is on a unit like this? What should I look for when buying it? I plan on having a Cat mechanic come and look at it before I give him the cash.

Any thoughts, ideas, recommendations on this unit? Are they good or bad? How hard are parts to find? I can not find much info on this model but was told it is basically the same as a TD40 but gas not diesel. Also found a pic of a TD9 and it looks a lot like that.

Appreciate any feedback.

P.S. Found this forum when I purchased a great Ford NAA and have come here often for info. The Ford is still running strong. I have purchased just about every 3 pt. implement for it that is made.

Thanks,
Corey (ND)

If you want a dozer to work, I would recomend a newer one that isn't as old & possibly not reliable. If you want one to restore & play with, I would say the TK40 would be a good one if it in good condition like the owner says. It uses a truck engine out of a D-50 IH truck. Engine parts are not that easy to find but more so than a diesel. Track & drive train are not available except from a parts tractor. Price for a good restorable machine would be around $2000/$3000.
