I HAVE A KOMATSU D31P AND AM TRYING TO REMOVE TRACK SHOES. ( SWAMP TYPE ) I HAVE NOT BEEN HAVING ANY LUCK WITH A 1/2 INCH BREAKER BAR WITH A FOUR FOOT CHEATER . ( BENT BAR ) THEY ARE 22MM OR 7/8 INCH BOLTS FOUR PER SHOE. I SOAKED THEM DOWN WITH A RUST BUSTER BUT THEY SURE OUR TIGHT. I COULD GET A 3/4 DRIVE SOCKET AND BREAKER BAR FROM WORK. DO YOU THINK THIS WILL WORK. BOOK ONLY CALLS FOR ABOUT NINETY FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE.

It probably amounts to rumor because I can't remember who told me, but aren't pad bolt and nut threads made jiggered somehow so they can't come off? And the only reasonable way to remove them is with a torch?

I just got doing my d-20, same pads, only difference is that mine were 3/4 ( 19mm ), I ended up breaking 2 breaker bars ( 1/2" ) and a ratchet befor getting a 3/4". I wanted to save the bolts to save money, but, the bolts and nuts for mine were only 44.00 from komatsu per side, wasn't worth it. If you have access to a tourch, cut them, will save you much headach, if you dont, go with a 3/4 or 1" breaker bar. even though they are listed at 90ftlbs they rust and get really tight, but I was able to remove all of mine, and broke off about 5 or 6, just to put them in a bucket with diesel fuel for wat ever reason, went back with new ones....D.....

Swamp dozers spend a lot of time in cold/muddy/wet conditions.A lot of Jap import gear arrives with bad rust around the undercarriage.A lot of the time,the bolts are so far gone that even force/heat have no effect.Good luck.

It might work but I would only consider two things---a 3/4" impact wrench or a torch ;)

Make that a 1 inch impact, with an engine driven compressor like they use for jackhammers,and have a spare socket! Torch is easier cheaper and quieter.
