New voltage regulator installed per instructions, polarized generator; output on ammeter registers 20 amps plus at moderate rpm. Service manual says gen max output is 35 amps. Battery charger indicates battery fully charged. Don't understand high amp charge output. Is that OK or have I goofed somehow? Help!! Thanks

Polk, did you check your "B" connection at the regulator. Are you getting feed back from the battery to the cut out control on the regulator?

Here is a pretty good discussion on generators and regulators that is applicable to yours.

Check voltage at battery when charging. If it much exceeds 2.4 volts per cell, battery electrolyte will be getting electrolysed, battery will be heated and generally abused = shortened life. Alternatively if it's charging at that rate there must be a large electric leak somewhere else!!!
