Hi Guys. I have just rebuilt my TD35 from the ground up. After trying to start (crank) I got a few fires, then nothing further. Found diesel in carb. due to hole in fuel tank allowing diesel and petrol to mix. Fixed that and tried again. No go at all. Cleaned plugs, checked timing again and borrowed a rebuilt mag. This time, started easily on 4th crank, ran for 30 seconds with choke partially on and then started coughing and back-firing and slowly died. Since then nothing at all. Timing has been checked so mag trips at DC 1-4 plugs were wet when I pulled one out. Using W-14 plugs which are short electrode, somebody suggested this may be part of the problem. Bit stuck here, but getting original mag fixed in the meantime. Any idea's?????

Try AUTOLITE 3077 plugs. If it is the plug problem, it should start right up. If you can't find any of these plugs, let me know. I think I can get you some. I am doing a TD35 right now & I would like to talk to you about some things if you are agreeable to that. jndwissler@dejazzd.com. I am in SE Pa.

What parts are you looking for. NOS - motor - track - loader or what. What you need depends on where to go.

I USE TO HAVE A TD35 AND A TD40 THAT STARTED WITH A CRANK ALSO. THE TD35 CARBERATOR CAN AT TIMES GET SOME DIRT OR CRAP IN IT. HOW IT GETS PAST THE FILTER I DON'T KNOW. I WOULD CHECK TO SEE THAT THE NEEDLE OF THE FLOAT IS SEATING PROPERLY AND THAT THE FLOAT IS WORKING O.K.. ALSO IF THE FLOAT HAS A HOLE IN IT IT WON'T FLOAT. CHECK IT IN A BOWL OF WATER OR SOME OTHER LIQUID. I USUALLY PRIMED THE CARB A COUPLE OF TIMES AND HAD THE CHOKE ON AND IT WOULD START IN THE FIRST TWO OR THREE CRANKS, BUT ONCE IT STARTED TO RUN I WOULD SLOWLY BACK OFF ON THE CHOKE. THE PLUGS SHOULD NEVER BE WET. AND THE PLUGS SHOULD SHOW A GOOD ARC. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING IS O.K. BUT YOU MAY HAVE TO ADVANCE SLIGHTY OR RETARD. JUST BE CAREFUL IT DOSEN'T TAKE YOUR HAND OFF WHEN CRANKING. GOOD LUCK.

Update for you all. She now runs quite well. Main problem was setting of change-over valve letting air in. Set injectors after making tester from an old hydraulic jack. She now runs fairly well on diesel, but I am not 100% happy that she is pulling as hard as she should. Still got to fine-tune clearances, governor settings etc. though. Just nice to be able to get on and have a drive. New bonnet being made and she should look a million dollars... well 100,000 so far anyway. ;) Thanks for all the suggestions.
