Does anybody know if you can turn the outside dia and inside bottom face of a 350B brake drum/ clutch housing? I just pulled the final drive off to replace the clutches and the outside surface is glazed, the inside bottom where the last plate hits the drum is pitted and glazed also, it looks like about .010 would clean it up But I want to make sure before I put in the lathe

I can't conceive of a good reason for doing what you suggest, but I guess you won't hurt anything either. As far as the steering-clutch surface goes, milling it a bit won't have a negative effect as long as you mill the same amount off the pressure-plate mounting surface. Total installed depth will change a little, but there's ample adjustment in the pressure-plate fingers and in the linkage to make up for it. It all seems to be extra work for nothing though. On the premise of machining the o.d. of the brake drum a bit, again there's lot of adjustment to make up for the smaller diameter - but in all the years I've worked on J.D. crawlers I don't believe I've ever had a brake band slip due to a glazed drum, in a steering set-up or in a winch.
