Just purchased this 1953 AC HD5G with a 2-71 Detroit Diesel and a Tractomotive TS5 loader. Found many opinions on what oils to use where, however, being that this is the most popular loader out there what oils is everyone using ? The Owners Manual shows SAE 30 for engine oil above 32*F, SAE 50 for transmission and finals and SAE 10 for loader fluid. Whats the right fluids by todays standards ????? Talked to the Oil company advised Rotella 40 wt. for engine, 80-90 wt. gear oil for transmission and finals and hydralic fluid AW-32 for hydralic system. The AC dealer advised AC 821 fluid for the hydralic system. All NON-foaming oils. Is this CORRECT ??? Of course in the past 50 years somebody may not have installed the proper fluids.

Aw32 (anti-ware 32 viscosity) is current for todays hyd. systems. It is not fire resistant though. 15W40 or 40wt is cuurnet for todays engines especially diesel. Multi-vis gear oil is current for all weather machine use. I just happen to have a extra parts book for your HD5G. email me for details.

We have an old Terex with an 8-71 Detroit, and were told by several different people running two-strokes not to run a high detergent oil such as Rotella T as it can damage something in the engine eventually. Do not remember for sure what it was now, sorry. Our local Mobil distributor used to keep oil on hand for us and a local trucker with a 6V-92. I wnat to say that back then it was a 200 series oil, and we were running 300 series oil in the rest of the tractors. None of this may matter on an occasional use machine, they may have been referring to engines that were running every day. Lavoy
