kid -- The 7u uses an opposed 2-cylinder gasoline pony, about 10 hp, mounted directly behind and above the diesel. The big problem with these are gasoline thinning the crankcase oil. Folks will shut them down by just grounding the magneto and leave the carb. full of gasoline -- the tractor rocks and vibrates causing liquid gas to get into the manifold, it finds its way past imperfect rings and viola -- no more lubrication. Definitely get an oil sample and test it. You can also check end play on the pony flywheel and compression of both sides. Assuming tracks are very good, a diesel with that much work needed and worse yet, if you have to rebuild the pony, I'd still think twice about how much money you want to sink in. If tracks aren't just about perfect, I'd definitely wonder about finding a better machine. Oh, by the way, pony parts are miserably expensive, but can be had/made. The 7u s aren't that old so not as bad as some others. As badpenny says, acmoc is a great resource for expertise and for parts. Hope this helps, Pete
