is ther anyone who may be able to tell me how to time a magneto for a td9 the part number starts with an H. It has been taken apart by the owner and friends. I now have it and am working with it. I am getting some spark but not sure if it is enuff or not. Also from reading the forum it seems that it does need to be timed and I would like to try that before returning the part and seeing it go on the dozer. thank you jerry

Jerry there are a pair of gears behind the rotor. They have marks on them R&L. The book for my W4 says to time up to the R. If your tractor is a Diesel time it to the L as that mag turns in the opposite direction. When you put the mag on the tractor get the engine on # 1 TDC firing stroke, mag rotor pointing at #1 plug wire socket. Mount the mag and push it in the advance direction untill it trips and tighten the bolts. Later Bob

Bob one other question. I have found some specs that say the distributor is gapped at .013 what is gapped at .020 is there a way to gap the armature and the coil? This dozer starts on gas then switches to diesel.

Bob I am finaly getting good spark out of the coil and up to the cap. Now when I go to check for spark from the plug wires I have none. I did notice something kind of peculiar though. One time as I was spinning the mage I saw spark under or by the cover that is over the opening for the condenser. I have the points gapped at .013. It may be the condenser How would I check it out? I am assuming it should not read to ground at the wire where it connects to points and if it does then my problem is the condenser is shorted to ground correct? Bob I would like to take a moment to say thank you for your assistance it is greztly appreciated. I am supposed to go with the owner and try to get it started again this friday if with your help I resolve the no fire from the cap to plug issue.

In my book it says to gap the plugs at .020". My book is the W4 Instruction Manual not the WD9 or TD9 book but plug gap should be the same. Are you able to get a good blue spark out of it? I have seen people hook up a 6 Volt coil to the mags and use the points and condencer when the mag was shot but it would be nice to get this one going. I was talking to someone else about one of these mags, not sure what I said to whom but if you get some spark but not a good spark the Magnet/Rotor on the shaft might be weak and need to be re magnetized.
