Hi CAT people, My brother has a D2crawler that doesn't want to start. It did run great, good power, no bad engine sounds, etc. The pony motor turns it over without a problem. He has been working on it, but this is his first diesel tractor. He seems to think it is the fuel tranfer pump? Has anyone ever used an electric fuel pump with a battery with any sucess? Any ideas on trouble shooting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Dave, keep it original, not likely much wrong with it anyway. #1 Is there lots of fuel in the tank and the valve at the tank turned on? #2 Do you have any pressure showing on the fuel pressure gauge when you turn it over with the starting engine? #3 When you crank it over with the starting engine and pull the fuel lever back to full throttle what comes out of the exh stack? Comeon back. Later Bob

Hi Bob, I appreciate the help. I spoke with my brother, in regard to fuel pressure gauge. He said with pony turning over engine it read not adaquate. He said he pressurized the fuel tank with a small compressor maybe 5 psi and the gauge read in the normal range. This was without running the pony( not enough hands to do both). With the pony motor running pulling throttle lever to full makes no change to smoke coming out the stack. Little or no smoke comes out the stack. You can just get a hint of the air has been run through the engine. He did try a slight shot of either or go juice in desparation and he noted a change in that some smoke came out of the stack then. He also told me he bled out injectors while he had the tank pressurized with out engine running and they bled out fine, the D2 still did not start. I hope this information helps. Thanks for your time. Dave

Dave, I don't think pressurizing the tank should have made all that much difference. It sure sounds like you don't have enough fuel coming through. Did it not try to fire on the either? At least give a bark or two? If you could get over there to help, try starting it with the air pressure in the tank. I think it might start that way. If it does then it's likely the fuel pressure relief valve that's open or has dirt under it's seat. Have to find where it is and get back to you. The decomperssion lever is on run isn't it? Later Bob
