I have a 310A that pukes out the radiator on startup when cold. I keep adding water until it settles down then I can run it all day with out adding more. I had it at the John Deere dealer for other problems and asked them to check out the cooling system problems, well they had it for a month with the tractor split waiting on parts so they couldn't checkout the problem until it was back together. They thought I was nuts until it happened to them "puking cold water". They checked for compression leaking into the cooling system, none found. The oil cooler also checked out OK for not leaking oil pressure. They called the factory engineers and they thought we were all nuts and had no idea why. Anyway I needed my tractor back really bad "I'm building a house" so I had it picked up and delivered to the site, and I 've been living with the problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Richard

I should have clarified that, we were trying to get used planetary axle parts. Apparently they are hard to find. The dealer couldn't find them using their system. I finally located them myself after about 8 hours on the internet and phone. They also split the tractor to fix the oil leak that " I beleive it was you Jonathan" pinpointed some time back in this discussion forum.

As far as the other problem....what the other guy said , sounds like a possibility.....momentarily blowing compression into the coolant.....if you take the head off, check that the dowel pins in the block deck are intact...their sole purpose is to align the head gasket and for some reason...some odd law of physics....one of the two...i believe its the rear one...tends to corrode a lot faster than the other....they are replaceable , so if they need replacing, I'll explain a way to get the old ones out...

You could have a slightly blown head gasket. Not enough to leak water in, but enough to let 175# of compression leak into the cooling system. As the head and block heat up and expand it tightens up enough to seal the compression leak. You might cure it by retorquing the head bolts. If it was mine, I would pull the head off and have it checked for flatness and magnafluxed for cracks, check liner height, and if no problem is found there, replace the head gasket and RETORQUE it after one hours running time.
